So I went down on Sunday night for my free room, of course.

Got there around 10pm, played about 20 minutes of 4-card poker and lost $110.. lovely.

So I sat at 1-2nl from 10:30-midnight (my hard cutoff) and pretty much floated around and went to bed down $50. I also tossed $10 in a a slot.

Got up on Monday at 8am (lovely day not to be working), and strolled around the fairly quiet casino. I somehow early $17 in comps from the 4-card poker and it paid for the buffet.

I won $20 on the slots, then sat at 1-2nl around 9:30am for a 90 minute session before the $200+30 (20k guar.) Omaha 8/better limit event at 11am.

Enjoy the read..especially how the bubble burst..

Again, with a short term strategy i called too many hands and ended up down about $200. Two dumb dumb calls cost me half of that in the last 10 minutes alone! grr...

So I sat down for the 11am Omaha event.
There were exactly 100 runners.. perfect 20k pot. and it paid top 18.. if there were 99 it would have only paid top 9.

40 minute levels and 6k in chips. Level 1 was 50/100 blinds and 100/200 limit. pretty high for the first level.. Taj does 25/25 blinds, 25/50 limit, then 25/50 blinds and 50/100 limit for levels 1 and 2.

I ended up liking that since it made people play right away. A bunch of true donks. One thought he could use 3 of his cards to make a straight!

I was down to 5000 at my low point after about 30 minutes. I was at table 3 so I was there for some time.

I played VERY VERY tight and smart.. I only played suited Ace with a 2 or 3, and some times KK with 2-3, and only A4 or A5 if I also had a 2,3,5 or a high pkt pair (like A4JJ).

I laid down bad draws and folded PF raises with a marginal hands. I just waited till I had good hands. Like in one particular monster hand at 200-400 limit, I had Ac2x4x7c. I neer raised PF with A2 in the early levels. Flop came 356, turn was a Jc and river was a blank. I scooped 3/4 of the monster pot.. it was about 9k.

that got me to about 14k.. I was down to 10k when this total monster came.. gave me near the chip lead with about 5 tables left.

So I had 8s9c10sQc in the BB. Blinds were 400/800 with 800/1600 limits. Posn3 goes all in for 1200, and Posn5 calls, SB completes the raise to 1600 and I call for the odds. Get back to posn 5 who goes all in for 2300. SB reraises to 3200 and Im looking at calling 1600 into a pot of 8400.
I call and the pot is 10,000. (3200 is mine)

there were 2 side pots and it took some time to get it right.. with 2 floormen supervising.

Flop comes 5h9sQs.. bingo, top 2, flush (SF draw) and straight draw. SB asks whispers to me if i want to check it down. I say no and I bet 800. He calls.
Turns is a Jc. He checks and I bet 1600, he raises to 3200 and I call. River is a 7c. He checks, I bet 1600 and he calls 1600 (all in).
I turn over my 8-10 straight (8910JQ), and he mucks his suited As2sxx. I win the side pot of 9600. Everyone else mucks and I take down a total pot of 19600 (8k was mine).

The SB was so pissed, calling me a donkey for playing with no low draw. I said I got nickled into it, calling small raises, then another raise.

So I was up to about 24k, I got all the way to 36k. A guy who was down to 1200 in chips came back and tool about 15k from me. By this point we were down to 20.

Then we are at more for the bubble. Blinds are 800/1600 and I have 12k in chips. Break is coming up and I'm the SB. Last hand before the break and this happens. i was pissed.

I have AJ37 and play tight on the bubble play. I check the flop 3 handed.. Button is stacked and player3 is short handed.. He has about 3800 left.
Flop is JKA rainbow. I check, guy bets 1600 and button calls. So I call. Turn is a 6 and it's check around. I know my low is dead. River is an 8 (JKA68) rainbow. I check, the short stacker with 2200 checks.. the button thinks.
I say to him.. "i have the high.. just check it down". He thinks and bets 3200.. the short stacker calls all in for 2200 out of position. I have to fold. the button had 25 for low and NO pair. Short stacks had an Ace to win the high.

I said to the button.. why would you do that? Why wouldnt you give me the chance to get the top half and put this guy on the ropes? He said... "oops". Sheesh.

So we go to break with 19 players and I have about 8k. At least I'm on the button. They color up to 100's to 500's when this amazing thing happened.

We come back from break and we are told there are only 18 left... one guy had only four black ($100) chips. And on color up you round down, so 400 went to zero, and he was raced out of the event. Truly amazing.

So it paid 16-18, $300. 13-15 $340. 10-12 $390.. the $450 for 9th and so on.. 2nd paid 3k and first 6100.

Meanwhile the guy was was down to 1200 earlier is now chip leader with 90k in chips.

So it's 7:15pm and we are down to 16. I have a 2 hr drive home. I'm not going to screw around to last to 13 or 14.. so in two hands I have A24J and A346.. I raised PF to 2k and bet the flop which had low potentials. I bricked both and went out in 16 of 100. Had I won those two hands, or parts of most of them I would had 30k and a chance.

I played so well.. one point is I was NEVER quartered in all 8 hrs of play. I either scooped or took 3/4's. Very proud of my play.

later.

Great job blue! Not too many people though, but it's Omaha I guess. I want to start getting into Omaha and Stud. But I want to start at a low limit (like I did in NLHE) but Borgata doesn't offer lower stakes on those. I'd have to trek to Taj, and I'm not a big fan of Taj. But awesome job! Are you coming back down Sunday for the NLHE satellite into the $250k prize pool tourney on the 19th?

No, too many trips lately.. my wife put a hold on my trips.. eyeing the Trump Taj Classic Omaha 8/b in December but even that might not go.

I'd love to otherwise.

Trouble is that I have 3 kids under 6yrs.

That stinks blue. You need to get your wife into poker :) my hubby did a few years ago and he says he created a monster! I'm always like 'Let's go to AC!' and he's like 'ugh' His friends and all the guys we meet in AC are like 'Dude, you're so lucky your wife plays, that's awesome!' but he HATES it lol.

Do you have any other info about those tourneys in December? Wonder if they have a ladies event (they are normally on weekends, which are best for me so I don't have to take off work).

2 little ones over 6? At least it's easy in the summer...make a family trip and wife can take the kids to the boardwalk :)

I tried... and I have three kids UNDER 6.

Last years list.. it might have more Omaha this year.. but usually quite similar..
http://www.cardplayer.com/tournaments/event_list/2072

No-Limit Hold'em Ladies Event 10 $200+20, there were 35 entrants.. lol.

The $300 Omaha hi low had 112. It was the Wed before thanksgiving.
The $500 one had just 35.

Maybe, if I'm lucky, the WPT will finally put an Omaha in the January Borgata WPT, and I will be able to play.

The thing is, I lost so much in the market each day, it seems pitiful to win 4k. Kinda lost it's charm.

So what do I do, play to show I can cash and play well... where does that get me? I need a $300 O8/b with like 600 people in it to make some real $. WSOP is $1500 but it's hard to do 3 days family wise. I'll have to see where I am financially next June.

One day I will do the WSOP Omaha 8/b.

OMIGOSH, 3, I misread that, my bad....but I was giving you the benefit of the doubt with 2 :) haha.

December is not too good for me to play down there since my parent's are going to Aruba for 20 days, starting on Turkey Day, and I have the honor of dogsitting their dog :) And if we go to AC, nobody to take care of the dog and hubby won't let me go down there alone. So I'm on the hunt for someone to watch the dog. LOL My aunt and uncle have watched him in the past, so that's an option to drop him off there before we go.

I know our plan in December was to play as many satellites to get into the main event at Borgata in January. Let's see, play $200 to play a ladies event with 35 ppl, or put in $200 or so to try to win a $10,000 seat in the main event? Tough choice for me :) LOL

You're right though, 3 days is tough...and I always see those people at Main Event on TV with a wife and kids home across the country or wherever while the hubby plays poker....not me, I'd be like 'grab your bags kids, we're going to Vegas!' And I'd bring my in law to watch the kids so I can watch hubby :)

My inlaws use the Petsmart doggy hotel.

I got 10th of 188 last year at the $300 O8/b at the Taj, got for about $800 payday... part that sucked was 18th paid the same and it took me 90 minutes to survive to 10th.. 11am start, left at 11:30pm.. eeks.

I'll have to plan to stay overnight next time, but that's 2 days off of work.. or 1 day plus a sick day :D

I don't think I could leave him there...he's always been with family, my family's weird like that. just have someone watch him. He likes my aunt's house, she takes him for a few walks a day, they spoil him, etc, he loves it there...he knows the word 'vacation' means either coming to my house or to my aunt's...too funny.

I can't stand playing for so long, then making what, in your case 500? The first time I cashed in a WPT event, I made 100 bucks and played for 11 hours...that sucked. This time, I played for 13 hours and made 4 grand, so it wasn't that bad, but still, it does a number to your body.

Ah, I love the deciding on taking a day or two off work to go to AC....you're part of the group! :)

I find drinking those "free" bottles of water all day makes all the difference.. Also since I'm in only about 1 in 3 hands or so, I tend to stand up each 3 hands.. keep the blood moving.

I agree about making $100 over 8 hours, why not make 4k. I'm afraid that takes playing in the WPT which are 2 day event (if you make day 2).. and the Borgata plays day 1 from like 11am till 4am, and day 2 from like 2pm till whenever.

At this point in my life I don't have that luxury. WSOP 2K9 is unlikely as well. I'd like to satellite into a bracelet event on FTP but the satellites are all NLH.

So with my new found epiphany and playing style in Omaha 8/b, I plan to buy into $24+2 or $50+5? O8/b events online when I get the chance. Even then I'm not sure when that is.. takes a perfect storm of occurrances...

However this monday the kids are in school, and I am off work (Columbus day). AC is out (via the wifey), which is too bad considering the 250k giveaway at Borgata, so maybe an online event on Sunday night or Monday.

I'll see what's up on Sunday pm.

I don't have a pstars acct, and i cannot play till after 8p anyway so Sunday million is out anyway.
